ENTITLED

Am I entitled to use cotton
I do not grow
Am I entitled to wear clothes
I do not sew


Am I entitled to harvest seeds
I do not plant
Am I entitled to eat food
Not grown on my land


Am I entitled to drink water
I do not draw
Am I entitled to love of a Father
I do not call


Am I entitled to rest
When I do not forsake
Am I entitled to dreams
I do not make


Am I entitled to health
I do not nourish
Am I entitled to a body
I do not cherish


Am I entitled to a mind
I refuse to fill with truth
Am I entitled to a heart
I will break and use


Am I entitled to destroy the air
I do not breathe
Am I entitled to pollute
The oceans and the creeks


Am I entitled to destroy places
I do not live
Am I entitled to keep taking
What I will not give


Am I entitled to speak for a Savior
I do not imitate
Am I entitled to judge the Truth
I’m called to consecrate


Am I entitled to berate
My neighbor or my enemy
Am I entitled to hate
Anyone different than me


Am I entitled to lose
What I did not find
Am I entitled to claim
Any money is mine


Am I entitled to the mercy
That I do not afford my neighbor
Am I entitled to pillage nature
Because I call it my labor


Am I entitled to receive forgiveness
When I hold grudges
Am I entitled to peace
When my neighbor struggles


Am I entitled to write words
I only received
Am I entitled to faith
Though I have no deeds


Am I entitled to consume
All that I desire
Am I entitled to not be consumed
By God’s Holy Fire


Am I entitled to wisdom
Yet, I do not want the Spirit
Am I entitled to give my opinion
When no one ask to hear it


Am I entitled to speak for life
Even when, I murder my own
Am I entitled to know what is right
While my weeds are overgrown


Am I entitled to claim a Savior
Who lived in poverty
Am I entitled to use the gospel
To guarantee prosperity


Am I entitled to overlook my sin
To judge my neighbors sexuality
Am I entitled to be the voice of morality
When I accept my own idolatry and gluttony


Am I entitled to religion’s doctrine
As I reject the call to love
Am I entitled to God’s help
When I do not serve the One above


Am I entitled to not follow The Way
That I do not take because I cannot see
Am I entitled to quote or discount a book
I do not know because I do not read


Am I entitled to speak
Out of both sides of my mouth
Am I entitled to contradict my words
By the way I live my life out


Am I entitled to a life
I did not create
Am I entitled to the world’s lifestyle
Though discontentment it curates


Am I entitled to be entertained
And demand my consumer place
Am I entitled to the free gift
That we call God’s Grace


Am I entitled not to be changed
By God’s Holy Son
Am I entitled to not go and sell
Everything that own


Am I entitled to refuse the cross
Yet, I am entitled to wear the crown
Am I entitled to be lifted up
When I refuse to bow down


Am I entitled to participate
In an economy built on greed
Am I entitled to define success
By fame, power and luxury


Am I entitled to comfort and security
When I have been gifted opportunity
But my brother and sister are left wanting
Because they were born a minority


Am I entitled to get mine
Though it negates everything
Am I entitled to forgo the winters
And demand the lush springs


Am I entitled to convenience
As it draws the blood of others
Am I entitled to an easier load
When I laid my excess on my brothers


Am I entitled to beauty
That I did not fashion
Am I entitled to partake
In Christ’s Holy Passion


Am I entitled to a Spirit
Who moves to transform
Am I entitled to Heaven’s promises
When I don’t take care of my earthly home


Am I entitled?
The question is before you
“Yes, I am entitled”
Tis the answer that is true.
