Excerpt from Let Food Be Thy Gift
Health Starts With Rest
Health doesn’t start with food, calories or workouts.
Blueberries, burpees, miles, calories, points, strength, six-packs, bikini bodies, diets, programs or formulas can’t deliver us, save us, satisfy our deep needs or answer our real fears. Health does not start with information, mindfulness, meditation or anything that we physically do. Health starts with being human who is physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually and relationally resting in truth and love.
What we physically do reflects and determines our internal reality, and who we are internally reflects and determines our physical reality. If we cannot physically rest, then we are not experiencing internal rest. Until we know who we are and how we are designed, then we will be unable to discover rest and everything we do will be a quest to get the love that we desperately need to rest. Without the fullness of love, we will try to fill ourselves up with what “feels” good and we will be controlled by anything or anyone that promises rest.
Spiritual emptiness will always reduce us to consumers and to constantly trying to fill ourselves up with food, alcohol, exercise, sex, money, work, hobbies, experiences, relationships, drugs and whatever promises all that the relationship with Love and Truth naturally provides.
Are you tired of consuming and being consumed? Do you want rest? Then be willing to tell the truth. Courageously move to discover who you are and how you are designed to naturally receive and give love and truth.
When we are full of love, we will be our true selves and we will move in surprising ways to receive and give ourselves and others the things we need to grow and flourish.
When we are full of love, we will be healthy.
When we are full of love, we will be able to experience and enjoy ourselves, our lives, others, life’s gifts and our world.
When we are full of love, we will be creators of truth, beauty and goodness because we will be full of truth, beauty and goodness.
When we are full of love, we will not only experience rest, but we will be a place of rest for others.
