This may hurt a little

Just over a week ago, I finished the following post with every intention of being vaccinated the very next day…but then I got sick. This past week has been difficult and revealing. I would like to discuss how and why but first it might help to read my post to give context to any future discussion.

So, I am just going to lay this down right here…feel free to do what you want with it.

The reasons why I have not been vaccinated are as follows… first, I do not have a comorbidity and I am not over 65. I also get plenty of sunshine, fresh air and exercise, and I am very very particular about what I eat. I don’t eat fast food and I eat very little processed food. I do eat lots of fruit, vegetables, nuts, seeds and leafy greens. I don’t take any medication except for the thyroid pill that I have taken for the last 20 years for hypothyroidism.

Last but not least, during the pandemic I have lived in Dellrose (I live in the country and most days I see just 2 people.) According to my physical in May, I was well within the normal limits of all things. However if I am being completely honest about why I have not been vaccinated, then it is (as you can see) I am very careful about putting anything in and on my body that isn’t natural and doesn’t have long term research.

With that said, I have from the start believed that 90% of people should not just walk but run to be vaccinated.

I say this in all seriousness and not because I think we should blindly obey the government or the CDC. Instead, I say this because I don’t believe most Americans know and/or care about what they put in their bodies on a daily basis. In fact, most Americans eat nothing but things that are completely produced by science including chips, crackers, soft drinks, cereals, candy, sports drinks, alcohol, processed meats and anything that can be mass produced and shipped across the country to be sold in thousands of fast food restaurants and stored on shelves for years.

As a result of our science-based diets, 88% of Americans now have some form of diet-related disease and sickness (diet-related disease and sickness is caused by what we do and do not eat). It is no surprise that most Americans with diet-related disease and sickness turn to science to treat their diet-related disease and sickness. Please research the amount of Americans who depend on science to keep them alive and who must take pharmaceuticals and have procedures to treat diet-related disease and sickness. (Diet-related sickness and disease includes obesity, inflammation, heart disease, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, cancer, autoimmune disease and type 2 diabetes.)

Another thing that shines a light on what we consume is evident by not not only our epidemics of diet-related disease and sickness in youth and adults, but also by what we purchase. Year after year, the corporations and businesses who sell junk food, fast food, soft drinks, highly processed foods and alcohol have made trillions. If supply shows what we demand, then compare the availability and cost of organic fruits and vegetables with junk, and you will see there is no comparison. We want junk!

At this point, I would like to briefly mention the supplement industry, the vitamin industry and the pharmaceutical industry. Rather than eating how we are designed and preventing, reversing and treating diet-related disease and strengthening our health naturally with real food, it obvious by the trillions spent on pharmaceuticals, vitamins and supplements that we had rather pop a pill with little to no long term research and/or little to no to care about the potential side effects caused by every single medication, vitamin or supplement.

Please understand, I am not saying any of this to shame anyone. Rather, I am making a simple and rather visible observation of how the mass majority of Americans consume and what our daily consumption has produced. There is absolutely no debate or disagreement among “the experts” that we were experiencing an epidemic of diet-related disease and sickness before the pandemic and that we are still experiencing an epidemic of diet-related disease and sickness in youth and adults after the pandemic.

Consequently, there is plenty of reliable research documenting that not only are 74% of Americans overweight or obese, but only 1 in 10 Americans eat the RDA of fruit and vegetables and only 3% eat the RDA of fiber (remember fiber and starches are vital to gut health, ridding the body of toxins and gut health determines immunity). In addition, most Americans are dehydrated and they have a number of vitamin and mineral deficiencies. Knowing all this to be true, it is my conclusion “based on science” and common sense that the main reason why we have epidemics of diet-related disease and sickness is a direct result from not eating Whole Foods and also from eating a whole lot of C.R.A.P (carbonated beverages, refined sugars, additives and processed foods).

Having spent 20 plus years in the diet and fitness industry and the last 7 years seriously researching diet-related disease and sickness, it is undeniable that most Americans (prepandemic) were dying from diet-related disease and sicknesses. Globally 11 million died from diet linked deaths in 2017. In America, diet-related disease had annually killed at least 500,000 people of all ages, colors, races and socioeconomic levels. Before the pandemic, diet-related disease and sickness was identified as a national security issue.

Likewise, diet-related disease and sickness had been and continues to be a growing economic problem. “In 2020, healthcare costs totaled $3.5 trillion, 85 percent of which was to manage diet-related chronic diseases.” One additional thing that I want to bring to your attention is that the cost of diet-related disease and sickness is SHARED by all of us and it affects everything from individual life expectancy to the local, state and national economies.

From the start, I have believed it was unethical and reprehensible to talk about either the coronavirus or the vaccine and not talk about diet-related disease and sickness. Especially, when we spend trillions of dollars on sickness and disease that we (ourselves) are causing and that have made us most susceptible of dying from a virus. The truth is that the mass majority of people who have died from the coronavirus had some type of comorbidity (obesity’s, heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, cancer, stroke, autoimmune, cancer and inflammation.)

Again, there is no debating the data involving the rates and causes of diet-related disease and sickness. There is also no doubt that diet-related disease and sickness kills us and they have obviously made us most susceptible to be killed by a virus. Unfortunately, all too often we forget that, diet-related disease and sickness does not just affect our “physical” health, it affects our mental, emotional, spiritual and relational health. In fact, the argument could be made that even the environmental pollution, the forever chemicals (PFA’s) in our bodies, the glyphosate, the microplastics that cover the planet and are also found in our bodies-ARE direct results of our consumer demands for easy, convenient and cheap junk.

The undeniable truth is that we (including me) are all participating in a system that cares more about treatments of disease and sickness than preventing them, and the system cares more about profits, control, return on investment, convenience and satisfying appetites than it does strengthening health, being good stewards of our spirits, hearts, minds, bodies and relationships, caring for all creatures and creation, protecting communities from businesses and corporations that capitalize on our weaknesses, making sure our children have a world with clean water, fertile soil and cool air, providing access to the best education and growing the most nutritious foods.

There is no doubt that we have political problems, environmental problems, racial inequality, gender inequality and epidemics of loneliness, suicide, addiction, depression, apathy and diet-related disease and sickness in youth and adults but worse than that- we have a truth problem. The pandemic didn’t cause this problem but it has certainly proven (once again) that we really don’t want to hear the truth. Specifically, we don’t want to hear that we have and continue to avoid the truth that the biggest problem is us- we eat crap and we demand someone, whether that be the government, the medical industry, the pharmaceutical corporations, insurance companies and technology to say us from our own selves.

I really don’t understand why we are fighting like hell over a vaccine when we have never had much uproar over the life threatening procedures and pills prescribed to treat our diet-related disease? Furthermore, where has been the anger from the massive amount of cheap junk everywhere in our communities, including in our schools? Research shows that we also have an epidemic of diet-related disease and sickness in our youth.

For quite a while, I’ve had a real problem if I saw someone talking about “health” and they were visibly suffering from diet-related disease and sickness. In the last few years, I’ve experienced a growing anger towards the “expert” or even the entrepreneur giving advice or selling a hack, product, formula, diet, workout, advice or supplement WITHOUT any real life experience, long term experience and who clearly does not have a basic understanding of “health” and how individual health encompasses the spirit, heart, mind, body and relationship with every creature and all creation.

(On a side note.. if I hear health is a “lifestyle” one more time or it is uniquely “individual” then I might literally explode.)

As a result of my growing annoyance and irritation about our complete negligence to address diet-related disease and sickness- when it came to the vaccine… I wondered how it was even possible that so many people had the nerve to talk about “science, health, personal responsibility, freedom, liberty, community responsibility and truth” and they have done little in regards to protect their own lives year after year from diet-related disease and sickness, and they are now part of the 88% who have diet-related disease and sickness..

So here’s the thing- I may or may not get the vaccine. It is my choice, it is my body and it is my life- a gift that I take very seriously. My first responsibility to this gift is to nourish my health to the best of my ability. I don’t just think it’s a moral or spiritual issue, but I think it’s my duty as an American citizen. It’s interesting to me how both republicans and democrats have argued over the vaccine when the mass majority of republicans and democrats have epidemic levels of diet-related disease and sickness- which means at the most base level democrats and republicans are the same and they leap over the most basic truths to argue about things that are a direct result of not loving yourself with all your heart, mind, soul and strength, and loving your neighbor as yourself.

So I find myself in a position knowing just how bad diet-related disease and sickness is in America and I believe that most Americans, regardless of age, race, gender, color, creed, ethnicity, political or religious affiliation, home place and socioeconomic levels should be vaccinated.

But I get why some refuse… it is because NOTHING has scared us thus far. Certainly, not the reality of suffering from or threat of dying from heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, diabetes, obesity, inflammation, auto immune issues and cancer. It seems like we have become deaf, dumb and blind to visible consequences, negative results, any teaching or understanding of treating the body as a holy temple and the reality that we are demanding our neighbors and future generations to pick up the tab for our complete unwillingness to stop consuming whatever we want, when we want and how we want, so we can selfishly do what we want.

Our culture has made it almost impossible to talk about diet-related disease and sickness, and this refusal to talk about it gives us no hope to address health and to transform health. So, that leaves us with only one plan- treat sickness and disease- which means Americans suffering from and currently “treating” their diet-related disease and sickness should get vaccinated. The chances of Americans dying or suffering from serious complications of diet-related disease and sickness ARE MUCH HIGHER than complications from the vaccine.

After The Sickness

After finishing this post, the following day I became deathly ill. I thought I had Covid. As I laid in my bed getting sicker and sicker, many things weighed heavy on my mind. First and foremost, was my 79 year old mother-in-law who had come to visit, my husband and my parents who I had just seen. Even though they were vaccinated, I was worried I had just exposed all of them to the Delta variant. Without a doubt, I had much regret for not getting vaccinated sooner. Though I did and still feel that someone like me can make more of a reasonable argument about the vaccine, it didn’t seem to matter when I was lying there praying that I hadn’t exposed someone else to a deadly virus.

Another thing that I thought about was the peace that I had from doing my best to strengthen my body for a time such as this. At no point, did I wish I had eaten more C.R.A.P. Instead, I was thankful that I had done the best I could and knew I had fully participated in the daily practice of strengthening my health.

Fast forward through the most horrible sickness, going to the emergency room and being treated for a tick sickness and not Covid and I am thankful to be alive. Even more, I am determined to get vaccinated as soon as possible.
