Thomas Merton said, “We make ourselves real by telling the truth.” This also means that we make ourselves healthy, holy and more human by telling the truth. The truths that we must tell are our own. We must tell our experience, strength, hope, fears, mistakes, successes, hurts, pains and joys. These are the truths that we must tell and these are the truths that not only makes us real, but unites us as human beings and helps to heal humanity.
Opinions do not make us real. Likes and dislikes are not our truths. They may be true symbol of like or dislike but our Truths cannot be reduced to a thumbs up or a thumbs down. I keep asking, Don’t you want more? Don’t you want to be known? Do you realize that your truth can help to heal yourself and others?
I don’t even know if there’s a place for truth online when there’s no place for real people, real issues and real problems.
